I have two ideas that I have yet to try. Both require a locking hood of some sort because of how insanely easy these things are to make run in a pinch. 2 jumper wires and a pair of pliers and you are in business...

Anyhow... So in the mid/late 80's ford started putting in keyless entry systems into cars with a keypad on them. You put in the code and it will unlock the driver's door, press two buttons (I think 1|2 and 3|4) and it unlocks both doors, press the 5|6 button and it unlocks the trunk. If you press and hold the #5 while the code is "active" it will keep the trunk solenoid powered. See where I'm going here? Find the wiring diagram for it, get the keypad and keyless unit... The factory code is optional because you can pop the top on it and make the code hard wired to what ever one you want with some soldering of resistors so you don't have to remember a code that makes no sense to you. Wire it so that the 5|6 button is the one that engages the starter Relocating the solenoid to somewhere less easily accessed from the bottom would make things harder for thieves.

Second, which can be compounded with the first one, is a series of 5 or more on-off-on switches. Those of you that remember the old days of computing will know what DIP switches are. Make it so that the switches wires are not easily accessed. Wire the power in to the first one and then choose an out, then wire that to the next switch and choose another out. Repeat until out of switches. A start sequence might be something like ^^v^v^ for 6 switches. The wire that you are adding multiple break points to is the power wire for the coil. Any thief would just say **** on it at this point.

Yes. I don't care of you're black, brown, white or purple, illegal immigrants, or as the politically correct would say "Undocumented Workers", ARE ALREADY STEALING from law abiding citizens and authorized residents.

I believe anyone living in the Unites States without legal authorization has NO RIGHT to be residing within sovereign territory of the United States of America. 11 million illegal aliens place an undue burden on school systems by displacing classroom space, demanding second language classes, participate in gang activity and organized crime, import drugs, they burden health care and other social services, and displace potential (and legal) employees.

Don't bring up the BS that they pay their share of taxes because they don't.. the majority of illegal immigrants do not because they are here illegally and cannot obtain a social security number. They are a net loser to the economy consuming resources and services in excess of the perceived benefits they may provide.

Many of them would be legal if it wasnt next to impossible to become a citizen.

No true. The first step is to file the required papers and obtain permission for legal residency in the US. Then there is a residency requirement for, if I recall correctly, between five and seven years. Then you are eligible for citizenship. Pass a test, participate in an interview, and then take the oath:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

Arright guys, sorry about the rant but I live in CA and am damned tired of this nanny state. Here are some tidbits:

"California’s state motto “Eureka” (I have found it!) aptly applies here. The state's population includes 3.2 million illegal aliens -- almost 24% of all illegal aliens in America -- have chosen the Golden State as their preferred domicile.

Despite its $26 billion budget deficit, the state spends $21.5 billion dollars annually subsidizing illegal alien health care, education, welfare, other state benefits and criminal justice. Every California native-born household chips in $2438 each year to help.

Unless you commit a violent felony, the state leaves you alone. Los Angeles Special Order 40 – a sanctuary policy that sets the tone statewide - prevents local officers from inquiring about your immigration status.

Many “visitors” head straight for Central Valley, which depends on a combination of immigration and irrigation to produce almost 8 percent of America’s total agricultural output. You’ll be in good company because more than half of the farm workers in California have no work authorization.

Of course don’t forget in-state tuition for illegal aliens. Take advantage of the Dream Act in a place that can only be described as the Dream State for Illegal Aliens."

This country has always demanded a cheap source of labor and it has always been imported, first from Africa, then eastern Europe, then Mexico and South America. I hate to say it but who else is going to pick the food we eat? Or clean the hotel rooms? Or any number of 100's of other what many Americans would deem menial work? I agree with much HIO says but the reality is the illegals do the work we home grown Americans, of all races, wont do anymore. I know, I grew 300-500 acres of fresh market snap beans, squash and tomatoes for 10 years and worked in agriculture for 20 years and still it is damn hard to make a profit doing it, our main competitor in the fresh veg market was/is Mexico whose labor costs are 10% of what ours were. Thanks Dems/Repubs (yes they both wanted it) for NAFTA!! So much for a "level playing field".

ps, about ex-cons, lol "colorfull"?

You also need a heap of money and a sponsor.

And now, back on topic.

Ok, back to the topic... I don't have any security added to my truck yet, but would like to install an ignition bypass switch of some sort under the dash. I take the coil wire with me if I'm parking anywhere busy or if I happen to be in a bigger city. I carry stated value full coverage insurance on the truck, so if it some scum bag steals it, I'm not out the money I put into it.

It's about $265/year, which I think is pretty reasonable. It's through the same company all my stuff is with (house, other cars, motorcycle, term life, etc), so I do get a bundle discount. They also require that I drive less than 7500 miles per year, and keep the truck in the garage at home.

I use my cigarette lighter to ground the coil. Park, push in the lighter (grounding coil), remove keys, lock doors and leave. The pickup won't start unless you pull the cigarette lighter out!! Simple, easy and not obvious at all!!
