What do you people do for rebuilding the seat? I'm on a fixed income and the seat has needed serious help for a few years.

 

Get a late 70's seat. Has 10x more padding and less springs to wear out. Best bang for buck.

 

Is it a direct replacement or what do I have to do to make it fit.

can go up to mid 1990s if i remember right not just the 70s

 

hey man i made my own bench seats for my 67 stepside i used the original bottom frame for the seats with some angleline welded for the back and support. then laid out good plywood cut a seat. found a few sofas in a aley jacked the foam and such. and used that to make my cusions then wraped that in some leather stuff from a hobby lobby. im happy with it its a cool look i think. check out my pics in my garge!
