I don't think u can shift on the fly with it. So I found an 8 stage chip that will do pretty much the same thing and shift on the fly. The programmer allows 3 custom programs but the total price is $700. The 8 stage chip with shift on the fly is about $500
My truck feels real sluggish and it seems that my turbo isn't kicking in until 2100 rpms? Just put in a riff raff intakeand I couldnt tell any difference. Any ideas why this rig would be sluggish. Put the riff raff in my buddies truck and he can tell a big difference. Is it possible that my injectors need to be changed or any ideas what would cause this beast to be sluggish. Don't feel the power band until 2k rpms????
Low fuel rail pressure perhaps. There's a schraeder valve on the fuel pressure regulator that's on the driver's side of the fuel bowl. Use a tire guage to check the pressure at idle. it should be between 40-50lbs. Do a search for FPR shim and that will bring your pressure up to roughly 65-70 lbs. If your fuel pressure is below 30 psi, you should ge a new fuel pump. Also, between the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) and the fuel bowl there's a little screen that gets plugged up real bad and needs to be cleaned every now and then. You have to remove the FPR to get at it. THat should help with throttle response and fuel mileage a bit too.
As for the engine RPM at speed, mine was 2500 @ 65ish with 4.10's and 2100@ 65ish with 3.55's. That's with the ZF5. I'm back to 4.10's now after the 4x4 conversion and 37" tires. I do miss the longer gears, but she pulls like a locomotive now.
As for the injectors, they could be getting worn. Give Jim at Rosewood diesel (his link is at the top of the page) a call or email. He'll set you up withe some rebuilds or stage 1's for a real good price. And for the programmer, Darin hit it on the head with the custom chips he mentioned. Great price, great service and great products.
I was told that it could possibly be that my cat is clogged. I am goin to get rid of it eventually anyway so I am goin to delete the cat first. Can u send me a pic of exactly where this Fpr thing is at. That would be a big help. Thanks for all the info.
It's a little wire mesh screen about 5/8" diameter. It's actually part of the FPR assembly. When you remove the FPR it will be in the piece that comes out of the fuel bowl. There's supposed to be a check ball in there as well, but mine hasn't had one since I got it. PO must have dropped it.
