Exhaust question

I remember seeing something somewhere about putting EFI exhaust manifolds onto a carb'd 300 I6 to improve performance, whats the story?

That would be correct! Common upgrade to these 300's! The efi's are much less restricted than the carbbed motors exhaust manifold.

The EFI manifolds are more like shorty headers. Headers will run you about $400 while I picked up my EFI manifolds are the salvage yard for $25.

perfect! i might have to do that upgrade then, something cheap and easy to get me a few more ponies, looks like the efi manifolds are set up to be able to run true duals also?

If you want to drive this truck when the temp is below 40F, you'll need to cobble up some sort of intake manifold heat. Many of the folks who install the fuellie manifolds to their carbed truck have made a plate that bolts to the bottom of the intake: see post #10 here;

Another option is to find a log style manifild from an F450 of 70's vintage and use it. It has a huge exhaust exit, and with good exhaust on it it'll work nearly as well. It'll also retain the carb heating function that you'll need in the country you live in. Picture here;
