I just bought a 93 F-250 with 219XXX miles on it, it was a little hard to start but the guy said it just needed new Glow plugs, so i put new ones in and it still wont start right, the other day i was at a car wash and couldnt get it to start at all so i popped the hood and took a garden hose and ran it over the injector pump (my friend has the same motor in his truck and has had to do it before, only reason i figured i would give it a shot) got back in the truck and it started on the first turn, i was wondering if having the pump rebuilt would help cause i cant afford to buy a new one, or if any one has one off a truck they are parting out i would buy it off them.
How does it run when its going lots of smoke , do you get smoke when you rev it up in neuteral , dose it have a miss at about 2000 rpm if you hold the revs there in neuteral. these were simptoms on mine and when I swaped out the pump they went away but mine started good. The water on the pump is a new one for me .
it smokes alot but thats because the guy who had it before me had the pump turned up, it smokes some in neutral but not nearly as much as when im driving, i havent noticed it missing at all it runs amazing as soon as its actually running its just geting it started thats the problem, and the water someone had told him that the head warps when it gets hot so the water cools it back down so it can build enough pressure
Do you know how much the P.O turned up the pump? and where is the alinement mark on the pump is it close to the mark on the gear couver? Depending on what part of the country you are in a reman pump might not be a bad idea I am in B.C and I got mine from ford for 800$ exchange but I have heard they are cheaper in the states . It should start better when warm than cold at least mine always did
i dont have a clue what its turned up to, i think he said that it was turned up 2 clicks from max if that makes sense. I live in Missouri and can get a rebuilt one for about 375 give or take a bit, just wanted to see if anyone had any advice.
I am sure you will get lots of advice on wat to do and how to do it . 375 for a pump sounds good to me when I was looking to get mine done the one guy that was close to me that is a realy good pump and injector guy he wanted 1400 $ to rebuild my pump that was wen I went and priced it from Ford and I had it the next day . You might find some one close to you that has one and you can swap it out and see if it works any better.
I don't remember exactly what, but the water to cool it down is a symptom of an old worn pump. If it has the original pump and injectors, they are ~100,000 mile wear items and well worth a replacement. That said, mine had 204,000 on the original set and were still running strong before I replaced them. Do some more searching and reading on this forum and you'll find all the info you need on replacing the pump and retiming it.
I have read it is the pump.Cold water on a good pump is very bad thing to do. Change the fuel and fill with diesel kleen let run for 10s and let sit over night. It worked great for me.
