I test drove a 2002 Crew Cab Short Bed Lariat today with 132K miles on it. Truck drove nice, but the rear tires are half gone and the tread that is there is kinda chewed up. Lots of little chunks ripped out, like he drove on lava rocks. They are Coopers. The fronts are new Firestones.
I've never seen tire wear like that. Any reason to think the truck itself played a part in that kind of wear? Salesman didn't have an explanation. Is a consignment at a small lot. Should I be worried? Thanks for any advice.
I would think it is the tires at fault, I don't know what could be wrong with a truck to remove chunks of rubber in the tread area.. Some of the older Bridgestones back in the late 70's and early 80's were bad about that.
The salesman could have admitted the tires were worn out!!!!!!
Work the cost of 4 new tires into your budget and offer accordingly. If everything else checks out, tires wouldnt be a deal breaker for me, if it were reflected in the final purchase price.
maybe the previous owner did a pretty massive burnout before he traded it in? or the tires were junk so the dealer threw on some cheap used ones to sell it
lots of riving on gravel roads, especially if the previous owner liked to stomp on it. he kept the best 2 of the originals, and bought two new ones to replace the 2 that were totally shot.
if the tires are chunking out i really doubt its from burnouts. they do burnouts on nearly every dragstrip and the tires don't chunk. now since in my world there are lots of grave roads and lots of tires that fit this description......l but what do i know.
