If they can't tell the difference between a stocker and a 38r then I doubt they will know the difference between an h2e. Or an obs type truck set up. I think you give these techs too much credit. And as with all things a smile and a dance will get you farther than you think.

Yep, somebody always knows somebody that can get it taken care of. Sometimes just need to ask/look around for a min.
Hey Bill,
Can you point me in the right direction on that H2e setup??? I have a e99 that I am adding to right now, but have a late motor in my building that I plan on rebuilding. I want to put stuff on my running motor right now that I can use on my new motor after it is built. I was thinking of the early to late conversion but would like to know about every option.
thanks
Joe
Irate Diesel built my T4 set up.
Oh, and the GTX4294 is $2800 retail - but with turbos, ya get more with $$$ and this charger is just amazing!
So its been some time since I have done any work for my build but I am back in full swing again. I have been having a knocking noise and a lot of blue/grayish smoke lately. Did a compression test and only have 25psi for #2 and 250psi for #4. The rest are around 400..So that got me motivated to get back in my build. Since then I ended up going with stage 1's from full force. New front cover, water pump, and oil pan are all installed. All rockers and push rods installed. T-500 on the way. Valve covergaskets and harness, ICP, and IPR this week, and then.....DONE!!I went with stage 1's partly for the money and after realizing I am happy with the power now. So I will have a little more and hopefully still have good dependability.
So is this low compression on the new motor or the old? If the new build it could be the after market head gaskets but shouldn't cause the knock I wouldn't think.

With good tuning.... you will have a truck that is LOTS of fun to drive - with nearly 400HP and reliability that should be on par with stock.
My X is running AC codes now and the S366 - its a whole new driving experience!!! It's awesome to have nearly twice the factory HP and basically no drawbacks whatsoever. Also, I'm very happy with Gearhead tunes so far.
The low compression was on the old motor.
So last Saturday pulled my truck in the shop after work and yanked the motor. Took sunday off for the superbowl, then continued to work on it every night after work. I finally fired up my almost 2 year engine build last night(Friday)....Man the sound of a nice tight, crisp new motor with stage 1's.... all I can say is WOW!! I have only put 45 miles on her so far and yet to switch my dp out of stock but it is amazing!! I can not explain the gratification I recieved on the first drive. All of the hard work was definetly worth it. I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way. And yes I will be posting pictures as soon as I get caught up on everything I put off for the last week....LOL
Heres the few pics I have from my phone, somehow I mis placed my camera during the install....
Misplaced your camera?!?!? I feel like I just watched the series finale of Deadwood again. Awesome show. Awesome show. Awesome show. AND it's over.
Maybe a stupid questions, but how much engine building/assembly experience had you prior to this? Judging by all the toolboxes and what not, I'd say you're not exactly a novice. I have a spare 00 with forged rods and two melted pistons I'd like to start putting together, provided the cylinders clean up under 0.30.
Yea not quite sure were I left the camera I remember taking pics with it and then cleaning up and not remember seeing it.
Yea no novice by any means, I have been wrenching for 13 years. I have been into diesel for the last 5 years or so. I've torn down and put back together a lot of 6.0s. This was the first 7.3 I have done tho starting with just the block.
Not sure on the mpg's yet I only have 175 miles on the new motor. I should get a good idea tomorrow tho, going to head over to the west coast of Florida for the rest of the week.
Sorry It took so long. Just bout a house, less then 8 weeks from being a dad. The truck runs great with the exception of randomly blows coolant out through the cap. Otherwise I am pleased with the outcome. I think If I were to do it again I may have gone a different route with the turbo.
What's kind of HP do you think you have with this setup? I ask because I have a spare 7.3L that i will be tearing down soon so looking for some input. I want to get to around 400hp.

I put down 370HP with AC codes and a 38R with conservative tuning. This is a solid combo that provides a good 50-75HP increase in power over just a stock (tuned) truck - but with less smoke and lower EGT's.
If I was building an engine, there is NO WAY I would consider using a stock-type turbo. For about the same money as coated Int'l bellowed up-pipes and a 38R you can run a T4/S366. The S366's performance is about the same with Stage 1's, but turbo options are ENDLESS when ya go to a T4. Not to mention ya never have to fool with the 'babies butt' again!! (I will happily pay a lil' more just for that!! )
