thanks for reading this and any ideas
just let your diesel rated electric fuel pump prime the system........if you haven't done that upgrade, get out the battery charger.
remember to crank for a max of 15 seconds with a wait period of at least 2 minutes between attempts so as not to burn up that pricey high torque diesel starter.
she'll fire off...................................eventually.
tip for next time;
bring the engine up to operating temp prior to changing the filter.fill it with diesel additive/atf (caution red dye!)/diesel fuel.
this way your not fighting a cold block and lose of prime at the same time, and she'll take right off for ya easier.......at least a little.
Most likely just air got in between the filter & the IP. If so, you just have to keep cranking it. Put a battery charger on it, and be careful not to cook the starter.
Crank for 10 seconds, let it cool for a minute, repeat as necessary...
It can take a while. Pop a cool one and keep going...
Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor while your cranking. It will crank a lot faster that way. Just be ready to take your foot of the pedal the second it starts to crank.
thanks for info had mechanic friend take a look he said that the mechanical fuel pump was not working pumping gas he took the fuel filter feed line louse and turned the engine over no gas came out so i removed the pump to insepct it when i pushed the pump plunger fuel was pumped out so i thinck the pump is good i will reinstall the fuel pump and give it a shot any tricks to getting the pump back in
just let your diesel rated electric fuel pump prime the system.........
u cant prime the hole system with just a epump u have to crank the motor to move the plunger in the ip to get the fuel to the injectors man i have been on a roll today
haha joe. Well I am saying this. I cranked my buddy's 7.3 for a minute straight w.o hurting the starter none. It was a motorcraft from 1997. His was a 1991 7.3 F250. Like they all said. Im x5 on just letting her crank (granted it takes a while and when you are not old enough to drink its nerve racking).
just because the starter still works after over heating them like that for 30 seconds or more at a time, doesn't mean you didn't do damage.
im sure both of you guys have replaced starters in the past.
remember how much faster she spun after putting a new one in?
an engine could still run fine if you didn't change the oil until 20k miles too.but does that mean it doesn't ware out sooner than if you changed it every recommended 3-5k miles?
I said that because he still has the same starter on his truck. I replaced my starter because it was a POS that I found out only costs 35 dollars...I replaced with a motorcraft and now it will crank all day long(figureativly speaking)
