I am thinking about getting a travel trailer and was wondering how much I can consistently tow with my truck. It's a stock FX4. We'd be pulling it mostly on level ground, though the mountains of North Carolina might be on our future. What trailer length and weight should I get for just the wife and me?
I am wondering the same thing? I am planning to pull a 6X10 enclosed trailer about 1500 miles in Jan and wonder how the 5.4 will hold up running 2700 RPM for that long. I always turn the O/D off when I TOW.

Yep, a good question. , I have other questions, too. For instance, what kind of meilage should I expect pulling a trailer around 5k? Do I need to do anything else to the truck?
I average around 14 pulling my trailer....doesn,t matter if it is loaded or empty
I do have a Bully Dog Power Pup tuner installed on my 05 crew cab 4X4 with the 5.4 and leave it set to the medium performance setting. I am running 72-75 MPH most of the time and turning 2750 RPM
Maxed out you should be able to tow 8,000+lbs. Not that I'd want to do that regularly though. Like the others said, 5-7k lbs is probably what I'd suggest for regular towing, keeping it safe, and not taxing the truck too much.
I'd say expect mileage in the 11-13 range if you're pulling at 2500+rpms all day long. You might want to invest in a hand held programmer and some custom tunes, especially a towing tune. If for nothing else, it'll at least help with trans shift pressure and keeping those trans temps down.
Awesome! Sounds like I am going to get to buy some goodies for the truck along with the camper! HAHA.
How about the mirrors? Should I get some desigend for towing a trailer, and what type is good?
I just got the 2007 few weeks ago. I'll speak from my 2002 F150 experience. I own a 21' hybrid trailer around 5000-6000 lb loaded. It tows just fine, the only time I can feel it's in back when I'm pulling up and down on mountains, which is normal. I towed once on the 2007 during my test drive, it had much better towing experience. And hmm, I get 10-11 mpg on the average towing on the 2002. That's when I drive it conservately as I usually does.
