This is not a .gov site but I have found a lot of information on towing requirements here and assume (whops) it to be correct. North Carolina
Your question is near the bottom of the page.
Required equipment: Safety chain, brakes required on trailer over 4,000 pounds. Wipers and lights must be on when conditions require.
Triple towing is not allowed. Riding is permitted in fifth wheels, travel trailers and pickup campers. Overnight parking is "as posted" in state rest areas.
How many 5th wheel trailers are over 35'?? Plus these Race Car Trucks with the Stacker trailers are longer than 60'.
As you know, NC is what I would consider "slack" compared to most states. If your under the weight you will never have a problem. We and many others haul 45' fifth wheel enclosed race car trailers with living quarters and never have a problem.
I have done a significant amount of research to determine the DOT requirements for farm related towing and I can tell you that finding information on this subject is very difficult. I have even gotten different information from DOT personnel so I don't think even they know what all of the laws and regulations are on this subject.
I hope that finding information on the requirements for pulling a camper is easier. Below is on site that might provide some useful info.
I was looking into this as well, was going to pile my kids and my friend, his wife and kids, into my 35' winnebago and tow his 30' drag behind so we'd each have our living quarters. We found we exceded the max length of just about every state we were to pass through, however determined that 5' wasn't a particularly big deal. Still haven't set a date to do it yet though. Just stick to main roads you can make the bends around.
