I have a 1988 f150 4x4 w/ <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">351w </a>. The truck stalls when at idle and sometimes while driving . The info that I have on a code 29 is the vehicle speed sensor. What is it and how does it work?
I am assuming that is causing the truck to stall.
Did you pull that code yourself? My list doesn't have 29 - VSS is 27.
The VSS is between the speedometer cable and the t-case. It has 2 wires (Red & LGreen, I think) going to it, and it's really easy to remove & install. That style rarely goes bad, though.
Thanks for your reply. I rechecked the stored codes and I got a hard code 31 and continuous code 29 KOEO test.
I wasn't really sure that 29 ment vss sensor. The problem started about 1 month ago about the same time that the speed odometer quit working. The engine just dies as if the key was turned off. It restarts right away, but dies again unless I give it a little gas. The problem is intermitent. Any help would be apprieciated.
If you need more info let me know.

I don't know why it would shut down your engine, but the plastic gears inside your t-case where the speedo cable connects have stripped out. They're about $8ea and are easy to change.
