I think it would be a good idea to gather some info with the goal being to identify reasons some of us have near zero perception of shifting problems, wheel bounce, driveline vibration, steering wander, turbo lag, etc..
So here is my first attempt at throwing a poll question out there.
1. I drive my truck exclusively, very rarely do I drive any other vehicle.
2. I drive a a "commuter car" or a smaller vehicle most of the time, truck on weekends if needed.
3. I drive my truck to and from work, but drive a bigger, heavier, older work truck for most of the day.
I will explain my theory here if there is enough interest in this thread.
Let's see...I have a 2011 SuperDuty, 2002 F150 SuperCrew, a 2011 F150 EcoBoost, a 2006 Honda Accord and a Astro van to choose from. If the SD is here, I drive it exclusively...that may explain why it has more miles on it this year than the rest combined...
Like ADCO, I think I know where you are heading with this...
I drive my F350 or Subaru to the airport once a week and around town when I'm home. On the Subaru, I row through the 6 speed so obviously not something that can be compared. I also drive my wife's Sequoia. The rest of the time, almost weekly, I am driving whatever Hertz gives me which is a large array of different vehicles. I fit into option 2.
I do not feel my F350 has problems. The shifts are noticeable and exact, not silky smooth like what you would expect from a sedan. But, I didn't buy a sedan with the intention of silky smooth shifts.
I ride the Harley exclusively unless we go with the 5th wheel. Wife drives only her car. I have launch shudder, harsh shifting into 5th and sometimes into reverse. and a sensitive throttle issue when weather is cold. I have not had any TSB's yet...waiting to see how the truck adapts to me. If I'm in the truck then 99% of the time there is approx 19k lb going with us. Owned for 6 mo's have 4300 miles on it.
My commute is 3.5 miles, then I get in my 18 wheeler. I use a 97 Toyota 4Runner for my daily commute. The big dog only comes out for longer trips and towing duties or when I feel like driving a bad *** truck.
Sole mode of transportation. Nearly 3000 miles, am starting to have the harsh, clanky shift into reverse. Will just hold out until first oil change and have flash done then, will give techs more time to get familiar with the procedure. No other issues so far, awesome amazing truck regardless.
