break in new engine

break in new engine

for a rebuild engine what would be the best oil to break it in and for how long thanks

I run motorcraft 15w40 that I get at wal mart. I read some test a while back and it beat out rotella. DIdnt save the link but they compared the additives in a bunch of different diesel oils.

standard oil will be fine. its a roller engine so you dont have to worry about the cam goin flat like you do with a flat tapped cam.

IIRC the John Deere dealer had break-in oil, don't know what makes it so special

Make sure to run it real hard for a good period of time!


Ring sealing is important.

If you read any diesel truck's owners manual it will tell you NOT to use any special oil, don't run at a constant RPM for long periods and don't do anything severe or tow for the first 1000-1500 miles.
