Just picked up another old ford. After losing my 81 f350 in my divorce figured it was time to get another one. I found an 86 250 xl 4x4 extended cab with 97000 miles on it. Its a clean pick up, Ill get some pics up as soon as i can. Body has no damage paint is faded a bit and interior is excellent shape looks new inside. Anyhow my question is what is the little plate in with the owners manual. I found the Origonal paperwork in the glove box and im guessing its the build plate. Also is there anything to look for or watch for with all this smog crap on it my 81 didnt have any of it. Also looking for any advice or good options for a shift kit trans is a little soft in my opinion. About the build plate i would like to know how to read it. ALso any ideas on getting a little bit better performance out of it, nothing to crazy as it is a daily driver.
Welcome to the forum. I have one of those too, it looks kinda like a metal credit card. I don't know what it does, but I would be interested to know too.
Well, I only went in to the dealer for warranty work once or twice (for the same problem), I believe it was called the "Dialogue Program". It was when Toyota first came out with their T-100 truck. Ford said they would fix anything that was wrong with their '80 - '92 model trucks IIRC. Other than that, I have done almost all my own repairs.
Sorry to hear that you got a lousy man-hater judge for your divorce. My ex tried taking my 80 F150 in the divorce, and the judge just chuckled and said that wouldn't be nessicary. I had told her I'd burn it to the ground before I'd let her have it.......
Anyways, congrats on getting another truck. You didn't give any important details when asking about optimizing the power, like engine size and trans type. 86 F250 4x4 could have a 351W or 460 under the hood, or even a diesel, but those didn't have much smog stuff..... Since you mentioned the trans feeling "soft", I'm guessing auto, so it should be a C6. There's lots of trick that can be done to firm up the shifts in a C6.
