Time for a programmer - V10 Excursion
I know there have been a lot of these threads. I am in the market for a programmer for my excursion. My hangup is the switching of different codes. I hate the idea of having half a dozen different programs and plugging some device in to change the way the car performs. Ideally it would have a "normal" program that acts exactly like it does now with some better transmission shifting and reduced pinging on ethanol gasoline, and a way for me to use the overdrive light to activate a tow/haul mode.
I don't want anything else. I don't want horsepower or even economy. I just want to be able to get in my car and drive it.
Does anybody make what I want?

Your tranny doesn't have a tow/haul mode, only overdrive on or off. That being said, the Mike's 5 Star can be purchased with 1,2 or 3 programs. Just get the one program with an 87 tow/economy if that's all you need. Once you plug in the probram, you will download the stock program that's on the vehicle, and then it will download the Mike's program into your vehicle's black box. Once installed, you are on your way. Nothing else to do but enjoy your new ride.

I think Mike from 5 Star tuning can give you a custom tune to fix the pinging (no more pings in mine now!) and for sure to make that 4R100 trans work better (makes my trans perform better!) but I don't don't know about giving you a tow/Haul mode like the 5 speed trans, that might be to much even for Mike.

I second (or third) the previous opinions. Everywhere I look for Ford V-10 programmers I see Mike's 5 star as the favorite by a mile, on EVERY forum. Soon as I can afford it, I'll get one too
