lug nut thread size...

"Ford/Lincoln made a mid year change in 2000, thread size could be 14x2.00 or 12x1.75 on F-150"

okay since Ford made this change, how can i tell which thread size i have on my truck? can it be checked at the parts store by VIN #? or do i just need to by one of each and see which one goes on smoothly then go from there? i am asking this, because i bought some wheels for my truck and my OEM lug nuts wont fit and i need to buy some new lug nuts to put the wheels on...

thanks in advance for any and all help

2.00 or 1.75, cut and dried

ALSO if you don't have a metric measuring device, 12mm is real close to 7/16" and 14mm is real close to 9/16"
