'78 Clutch "clunk"
My '78 Ranger Shortbox 4x4 clutch is kind of acting up. I have the 351m400 engine with a T18 trans in a 4 speed manual.
The clutch sticks up alot, and I really have to push it down to be able to shift, but that is not the problem. The first slight depression of the clutch is harder and results in a "clunk" sound, and after that, it pushes down fine. This happens 90% of the time when I depress the clutch.
My truck shifts fine and this problem is not causing any problems as of right now, but I'm worried so nothing bad happens on the road or unexpectedly.
I got under the truck and seemed to see that the release bar assembly seems to be bent, possibly from a bent or damaged bushing(s) or lugs on the release bracket, but I'm not sure.
I really did not want to spend the $ for a new clutch or the time for putting it in.
Is there any clutch experts out there who may know/have experienced this problem? I guess I am looking for a fix for it or any other information.
I can post a picture of the clutch assembly under the truck if needed.
Thanks for your help!
