I have not seen the "drive to clean exhaust filter" message either but it's not a rumor message.
This is documented on page 55 of the 6.7L engine manual.
I just picked my 6.7 up last week. I too was reading this forum and looking to wait, now that I have it, my advise is DON'T WAIT!! The truck/motor is awesome, motor purrs like a kitten, but when you need it has the power of a gorilla. I have 600 miles on it now and I am so looking forward to pulling my TT next week on our trip.
