Newbie looking for advice!

Hello Everyone!

I've been looking around the site for a while now as I've been planning to purchase an F250 or F350 and wanted to get informed about them.

First, I want to say thinks to everyone the posts here - the information that's made available is a great help.

Ok - I found a truck that I'm interested in and wanted to run this by everyone here - see if you all think its a good deal or not, and see if you can let me know what I should be looking for when I check out the truck.

The truck I'm looking at is an '07 F350 King Ranch, Crew Cab, 6.0 PSD, with DRW - has just under 96K and is listed at just under $27K.

I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer, and if they still have it, will (hopefully) be going down to take a look at it later today. What should I be looking for when I go down to look at this. From the research that I've done, it seems to be a good deal - higher mileage, but barely broke in for a diesel, and a few thousand $ below KKB/NADA.

The high mileage doesn't bother me too much as it wont be my daily driver and I wont put many miles on it each year, so within a few years the mileage to age ratio will balance out a little better.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I'd recommend going with the 6.4 liter over the 6.0

Thanks for the response!

Maybe they're cheaper where you're located - I'm in the northeast (where everything is more expensive) and when I ran it through KBB it came back just north of $32K - Nada was a little lower, but $27K seemed like a good deal below book value.

They asked for zipcode when getting the values, so maybe that makes a big difference.

Maybe some other folks can chime in - I definitely don't want to get ripped off!

Thanks again!

Based on the fact that your not planning on putting miles on this thing I'm going to suggest that you walk away from it and look hard at a gasser option. Weither it be a 2011 6.2 or a used 6.8l. These late model psds just don't like to sit around. Their expensive to keep up. If your from the school of thought to change your oil at a milage point or 6 months which ever comes 1st your looking at $120 a year just for the truck sitting. I dunno how I feel about sitting fuelfilters. It might be possible that they might need to be changed still. I could see junk harding in the filters. I'm not saying it would just not ruling it out. Seems like a lot of money just to sit around.

The late years of the 6.0 are not as bad. You dont need to worry about the troubles of the 6.0 in the 2007 year, the only had big problems from 03-05 ish.

If you are looking at a Diesel Crew Cab Dually, then I assume you have something big to tow or haul. If so, I think you are looking at the right truck and the price is dependent upon where you live.

Personally, I needed a Crew Cab to fit my family, but I don't have a huge travel trailer (only 22') so I didn't need a diesel or a dually. I bought my truck a year ago (see sig below) and am very happy with it. I only put on 4,000 in the first year I've had it, so I know the V10 was the right choice for me.

If you can get by without a diesel dually, you can save somewhere around $10K.

I agree with the above. The diesel will be more expensive and the newer engines have more problems if they sit for long periods. If you were going to drive it 50 miles each day, then I would say go for it, but letting it sit and/or not driving it enough each day will lead to problems, and diesel repairs are expensive. If you have a need for a dually (really large trailer), then there is little option other than a V-10 dually, but those are hard to find.
What is the size and weight of the trailer you will be pulling?

They are generally hard to find, but (at least in my area) you will find many F450 DRW V10s becuase the V10 was sold in a lot of commercial vehicles. Just a tip.

Diesel

Diesel need to be driving hard often. I did not do this with my diesel and it costed me big Money.

I love my v10 and would not go back to a 6.0. But if you want a diesel look at a 7.3 Ford or a DURAMAX 2000 to 2007.
