Angry Vapor Lock

1972 F-250, 390FE, C6

Vapor lock has bitten me twice in the last two weeks and is getting old fast.

The metal fuel line from the carburetor to the mechanical pump was 170 F+ degrees. Intake manifold and front of engine is close to 200F. The rubber hose coming off the other side of the fuel pump was only 108F.

Would some kind of heat shield tube or wrap on the metal fuel line work to keep the temperature down?

Something like this:
Thermo-Tec Thermo-Flex Sleeve Insulation - JEGS

or this:
JEGS Performance Products 32030 JEGS Heat Shield Tape

Also wonder if anybody has wrapped the mechanical fuel pump with a heat shield?

Any other ideas to reduce the chance of vapor lock without converting to an electric fuel pump?

How about running a rubber fuel hose from the pump to the carburetor and insulating it? Less heat buildup?

Clip cloths pins to the metal line to disapate the heat.

or slide a larger rubber hose over the metal line it will act as an insulator

Thanks for the replies.

I'm trying out Mikes idea of the rubber hose on the metal fuel line. No vapor lock today but it was a lot cooler. Have to push it on a hotter day and see if it holds up.

If not, may try a mini-radiator for the gas right before the fuel pump.
