hey ya'll. got an '84 250 6.9l. had it for almost a year now no real problems, 'cept recently been seeing more smoke in the mirrors then before under light loads. mileage hasn't seemed to changed. just wondering if it could of been caused by running some atf through. ran some through to try to clean the injectors up. just wondering if the smoke could be a the result of the injector nozzles getting cleared of carbon and now letting more fuel in. filters where changed about 3 months ago.
Running ATF through your injectors dont really clean them too well...run diesel kleen in the filter the post your results....how many miles are on the IP/Injectors??
ran ATF cause i heard it would be pretty good to lube IP, and clean the injectors. guessing their probably the originals so about 128k. didn't really smoke before unless i really put my foot in it, but been noticing a steady stream of smoke under light to medium load over the last 2 tanks, roughly 600 miles. put the ATF in 3 tanks ago. only filling up at sunocos or hess's. so i don't think its fuel quality problem.
30 years ago, atf was all they really had to clean diesels out. So they used it. This little thing called technology came along and man is there better **** out there to put in a tank to clean injectors. lol. your smoke could be from a clogged up air filter, its hard to say. Could also be a sticking injector or one that lost its pop pressure. Too many things in that equation. I would start with new air filter, cleanup dose of diesel kleen and then see.
