Basket Case

I just got a basket case so this should be the first of may posts. The basics. I have a 1984 F-350 4spd. with a 1993 F-150 cab and 460 on the floor and brillo box of rusty parts. From what I have read the 84 had a mechanical spedo and the 93 is electronic. Anyone got a fix for this?

Thanks
Hermit

What tranny are you using? If its an auto, the E4OD (20 bolt pan) uses the PCM to make the shifts...Or you can use a standalone computer...$$$

If its a manual, just use the 93 dash, and electronics.....

I didn't want to use the electronics. I think the engine is an 84 so all I would be using the ecm for is speed. Where would I get VSS? I thought it was on the rear end? Am I going to have to use 93 electronics to run the whole dash cluster?

So let me get this straight, you are using the Manual 4 speed tranny, and the 84 model engine (Carbed)?

The VSS is on the tranny....On the D/S side, a lil plug type deal/ with a couple wires poking out...Should be the only wires going into the cab....

The rest of gauge cluster is a bunch of idiot lights aka on/off switches...

Oil Pressure switch-2 wires
Temperature Gauge-2/4 wires
Fuel gauge-3/5 wires
Voltmeter Gauge-2/3 wires

And the speedo is a easy one....The tone ring makes the frequency for the speed (Higher frequency/Faster speed, etc) Just have to wire the speedo up that way.....

Now...You may wanna check/wait for a few more to chime in on this before you have at it...Just to be safe...

Wes,
I knew this was the place to come.
You got it all right so far. Yes it's carberated (will get to that later)
All I have where the spedo drive gear should go is a hole.
How about a pin out for the two plugs on the firewall?

Thanks for all the help. I understand you guys get paid in pictures? Will take some today.
Gary

That should help you get started.....

Also, just a thought...You COULD get a 87-91 Dash, and all the gauges...And get it all out of a manual truck, they run the speedo cable type deal.....And as the 87-91 and 92-96 trucks use the same cab/dash mounts, it'd be a direct swap in....

Wes,
Do I have to swap out the whole dash???? I got a cluster from an 88 f150 and mounts different and the plugs are reversed.
