Turbo Question

I have a 92 7.3 that i am going to put a sidewinder kit on. i plan on pulling the motor and replacing the injectors, return lines, glow plugs and head gaskets. my question is: What is recomended for the head bolts? i thought about replaceing them but all i have found is ARP studs ($800). thats just too high for some bolts

The factory headbolts on the 7.3 are good for 12-15 lbs. of boost. I don't think you will get more than that from the sidewinder, without mods. I'd just use the stock headbolts.

Thats way to much for the studs, last ones I got were 450.00 shipped.

arp doesnt offer a 7.3l idi "kit" they have one for the 6.9l that WONT fit. they have 7.3l psd that also WONT fit. you can order em separately but thats about it. and as stated, no reason for studs unless you plan on running more then 15-16 lbs of boost or plan on running an exhaust brake. your better off saving that 800 bucks and getting a full exhaust, new injectors AND a rebuilt IP for the same money

ok when you guys say you need studs for ~15psi and more is that just so the head gasket stays together better?

Its to keep the head from pushing away from the block and causing the head basket to blow. Head bolts tend to stretch a lot more then studs will
