$57,000 sticker, so what's up with the rust?

I've owned a 2008 Tundra and never noticed any rust on the suspension and steering components.
I plan to paint all the unprotected components, but it would have been so easy to require Ford's suppliers to coat or treat these components as a requirement of delivery.
It is unbelievable.

it's not a cosmetic issue when you can drop a can between your legs while driving and it lands on the road.
