After driving my truck for approximately an hour yesterday anywhere from 55-70mph I noticed the wrench light was on. I pulled over at the next rest stop, turned it off and turned it right back on. No light. Drove another 30 min home, still no light. It looks like the wrench means "Limp Mode" but there was no loss of power or anything. It still ran like it did before the light. Any ideas on what I need to be checking for or could this have just been a fluke? Fluid levels, etc? I don't have gauges or a tuner.
One more thing, it seems like when my truck heats up, i get a weird rattle from the exhaust. I thought it may be rubbing on the transmission cross member or something else but it is definitely not. I attributed it to the muffler, but now I'm almost wondering if it could be something to do with the turbo. Could something loose in the turbo be causing this a rattle like this and the wrench light? Just a thought.
There's probably a million possibilities for the wrench light to come on. Without haveing any real running concerns, to help narrow it down, you will need to get the codes read to figure anything out.
I have my doubts about a coolant flush adequately removing a severe oil cooler blockage. Nylyon recently posted up a procedure that will certainly give you your best shot at it - if that is your problem.
The DTC for the high delta between coolant and oil temps is P012F and P0234 for overboost (TSB 09-24-3).
I wasn't aware either that you need Ford equipment to read them.
Also, for low FICM voltage you can get a wrench light and DTC P0560 (when Vpower Pids is below 10.25 volts for 60 seconds and below 9 volts for 4 seconds).
So would you suggest taking it to the ford dealer at this point to have the codes read or wait and see if it happens again? Like I said this was one incident and it was on for maybe 3-4 min. Hasn't happened since.
