Hi all , my dad and I are new to this forum . Welp , about 6 months ago my dad was driving the Aerostar down the highway and all of a sudden it stalled and would not re-start , it had been running rough a couple months before it happened. We are getting gas from the schraider valve on the fuel rail and we are also getting a spark , it will not run with starter fluid sprayed into the air intake either , which we found puzzling , we have yet to do a timing chain test with a breaker bar on the damper . We finally got the codes off the OBD the other night and this is what we got : Flash....pause.....Flash Flash Flash ......longer pause.....Flash.....short pause....Flash Flash Flash.....short pause ....Flash Flash Flash . I think thats how it went but I might have to review my notes , so does this mean 33? Which would mean an open EGR valve? Would this EGR valve problem cause it to not start? Thanks for reading , any help would be appreciated . Thanks in advance .
The code looks like a 13 or 133. I'm not sure what that is, as I do not have a reference with me right now. The EGR would only have an effect when the engine is running, and generating exhaust. A leaking vacuum line can cause your problems as well. Check for the sneaky one; a loose line or blown cap on the vacuum tree at the rear of the left side of the upper intake plenum.
If you had been cranking a lot with fuel but no start, the plugs may be wet, and will not fire. Can you pull a spark plug to check, and maybe dry them out?
Ok , yeh , its a 3.0 v6 2wdrive , 149k . I am starting to lean now towards what you are saying about the vacuum lines , because it was choking alot when I would accelerate , like it was gasping for air or something , I am going to check where you said on the left side of the engine .
Pull the Vacuum hose going to the Transmission Modulator and see if it's full of transmission fluid. If it is, you'll have to replace the modulator, clean and/or replace vacuum hoses, change Engine oil, and replace or clean-up plugs.
It should fire with starter fluid even if there is a vacuum leak..Clogged exhaust and it would fire and shut down right away. Do a compression test to see if the cam is off. Sounds to me like something broke.
