f150 front leafs

My buddy has a set of 1 ton axles front and rear with a set of 4.10 gears in them. He is practically giving them to me if i want them, 100$ all together for the two of them

obviously they are leaf spring axles front in rear so my question is what all is involved in putting leafs on the front of the truck. Parts list estimated time to do the swap, i gotta be able to do it in a weekend cuz of work, and an estimated price maybe. all the normal things everyone is always worried about starting a project.

I know leaf springs and hangers will be needed. what about shocks or brake lines or anything?

pretty sure on your truck you can't go leafs in front without making new front frame horns, something about crash impact crumple zone b/s. are the ends of your frame crinkled like a french fry????

i hate to send folks away from fte, but join up on fullsize bronco and read a lot in the sas section. if i'm thinking right, your options are coils springs and radius arms(better anyways and not much harder to do) or make a new set of frame horns from the engine crossmember forward to get rid of the crinkle frame junk.

everything i heard was that it was harder to change a leaf sprung axle to a coil and have everything all work right.

but thanks for the info mr. dan

p.s. i'm sure you're not retarded, but i just thought i'd mention.......... buy these axles either way. whether you use them or not $100 is a forking steal and you can make a killing reselling them.

so can any of yall tell me what the mounting location of the brackets that ed used was?

meaning how far from the front of the frame is the shackle in the front and then how far back from that is the rear mount set

also it looks like he completely made up the steering linkages, will an f350 work just fine instead of making them up?

First off, if youre worried about fabbing new steering linkages then maybe this job isnt for you.

Heres how Id go about the front and rear hanger location...

Mark your axles centerline in relation to the frame with the current TTB axle. Plumb bob helps
Cut all that junk out
Roll the 60 with the leafs bolted on under the truck
Line up with original axle centerline marks. Plumb bob helps
Mark the center of the front leaf spring eye on the frame. This should be the center of the front hanger eye.
Mark the center of the rear leaf spring eye on the frame. You will need to move the mounting hole forward maybe an inch to achieve around a 20* shackle angle. I dont know exactly how much. Weight of the truck and stiffness of the springs will be a factor.
Build hangers/mounts and bolt it in.
Build drag link and tie rod
Build trac bar to match drag link angle
Dont forget to bolt front drive shaft in.

no its not building it thats the problem I would just like to save time and bolt the steering in if i could

but it doesnt matter i just called my buddy that had the axles and someone offered him 1200 for the pair of axles so im not gonna pay that much for them even though that is still a fair price for them, just dont have that much money to pay for them

What year are the axles? If they are 86 and up you should be able to use the factory steering. MAy have to go with a drop pitman arm. However since you have never done this before i seriously doubt you can pull it off in a weekend.
