I have a F250 that the engine temp guage will spike hot and the transmission will cut off, the engine stays running but the transmission will not work. If I turn the key off and turn it back on the temperature guage will go back to normal and it will run like nothing happened.
It will do this on and off. The coolant level is fine, the transmission guage never shows hot. Does anyone have any ideas?
the truck might be going into some type of "limp mode" because the engine temp has spiked. Problem is to determine if the spike is for real or just in the computer. THe gauge is spiking which makes you wonder "how"... My brother had a chevy blazer that did similar and the dealer finally decided to reload the computer program in hopes of eliminating the problem... they thought it was not real..
I don't believe it is real because when you turn off the key and turn it back on the temperature gauge is back to normal. If it was over heating it would not cool that quick.
Could it be a bad sending unit or some other ideas?
i had this problem. im not sure what caused it, but i was about to replace my CTS to fix it. the head temperature never exceeded 210*, but i was still having the same problems as you are describing. so i ended up changing the thermostat and flushing the coolant and all was good.
