my new 1993 F250 7.3

I recently bought a '93 idi and i was wondering what some general routine maintenances or check-ups these motors require? I understand that they are almost bullet proof if taken care of correctly but what are some common problems (if any)?

Cavitation is the big one on the 7.3. You best get test strips so you can test fir it. If not I would just get some pre charged stuff from John Deere or some sort of brand that says it's pre charged with SCA=Supplemental Coolant Additives. If your 7.3 cavitates kiss that motor goodbye or you might be able to resleeve the cylinder that dies. I'd also check the CDR valve to make sure it's working correctly. CDR= Crankcase Depression Regulator. If your intake has an oily. Mess all over it then your should take out the CDR and soak it in a mineral spirit (I.e) white gas or kerosene. Other than that you should be ok dependent on the injectors and injection pump. How many miles are on the engine? And post some pictures of that bad boy!

Btw...... welcome to the IDI section of FTE. the local experts are Wreckinball, IDIDeiseljohn, snaponprofile, Oreocreaming, And F250XLT....he deals with the E4OD which in my opinion is not that great. But I just like flustering him lol.

Put more info on your truck on here. WELCOME TO FTE

Yep, I would say your injectIon pump and injectors are due for a tuneup. Take the fuel filter off and pour out the diesel into the tank. Then put some sort of diesel care in the filter like diesel kleen. Screw the filter back on. Start the truck for 30 seconds then shut it off, let it sit overnight then the next morning start it and drive the **** outta it, like you stole it.

What color is the IP (injection pump)? If it's gray it might be original from 1993. Try and get ahold of the previous owner and ask him the service history of it.

I do believe it is the original pump yet. I plan on replacing pump and injectors before winter for sure. What brand a additive do you recomend? How often do you use additive?

Welcome to FTE, bro. I use Diesel Kleen but I will also mix ATF and I am going to start UMO once I get a filtering setup for it.
