where did you get the sensor? oem or aftermarket?
pull it and check it.
I have removed new sensors that were manufactured too long and the ring in the rearend destroyed it.
also check wiring especially from the sensor to the frame.
i got the sensor from advanced. they wont replace it bc it was installed. i may buy another tomorrow. i have checked all exposed wiring but did not want to go through it al unless necesary. thank you for the reply
I had a 97 f-250 7.3. the samething happened. I replaced the VSS sensor. Two days later the samething happened. I pulled the sensor again and it had metal on the sensor. I pulled the cover of the rear end and washed it out with fuel. I got a speaker magnet and put it in the rear end housing to catch the metal if anymore appeared. Replaced the oil. It is still running fine.
Hope this helps.
