I'd like to turn off the interior lights when I open a door. For example, we get home late and the kids are sleeping. I'd like to kill the lights so I can carry them inside sleeping.
I've checked the manual and can't find an answer. On all my previous vehicles I could roll a dial all the way to the left and it'd click off but no luck on my truck. I've pushed that button left a million times and held it down for what seems like an eternity... help!
Just sold my 06 with that feature and cant find it on my 2011 either...when arriving at a campsite after dark, every mosquito in town moves into the truck while unpacking if you can't kill the interior lights. FORD wouldn't be dumb enough to have regressed this feature could they?
If it would save Ford a nickel they would be dumb enough to regress any feature. Examples would be: No more manual windows except XL regular cab, no more manual transmission, no more manual locking hubs on 4x4, no more passenger side lock cylinders, no more transmission dipstick under the hood, no more variety of cloth seat colors to choose from, and etc.
Unfortunately this can no longer be done. Somebody in a previous thread said their dealer told them about a way to reflash the ECU so that they dont come on at all...but you cant toggle it. Not sure how much truth there is to that.
Wonder why they would remove it... I remember working in the military, we'd press an override switch (like a button in Chevy vehicles) to keep it from coming on but that was really because we worked nights and opening the door, turning on the lights, would strain your eyes for a few seconds - take some time to readjust. So, I know there are other career fields that don't want/need it on... surely this a way?!
Initially he gave the example of not waking up the kids. Another example would be an early morning arrival at the hunting blind. You might not want the bright lights on to mess with your night vision.
I believe in another thread, it was a flash for Police officers, since it can mean their life if the lights always came on while they exited a vehicle.
On my STX their is a three position on the lights that you can choose to have the lights come on or not if I remember correctly. As I am out of Town and do not have my truck with me I can not check to make sure.

That only works for the rear lights not the front map lights
I really like a lot of the engineering features on the new trucks such as the Eco-Boost engine and 6 speed transmission. But all of these electronic nannies are enough to drive me away from the purchase of a new truck. Not only do I resent being required to pay more $ for features I don't want at point of sale, I really resent having to pay more $ for repair when something goes wrong.
