sparks coming from starter

i have an 04 f250 i get home today and try to start it and all it does is click one time and i smell burnig wires from outside... i had my wife try and start it while im lookin at the starter through the fender and i see everytime she trys to crank it it throws big sparks out of the starter sol. does this mean im grunding out some where or is it a bad starter.... and yes batts. are charged

Starter, solenoid, wiring all need to be checked.

Go on longer, and you are talking about a new set of batteries and cables.

A tad more, a fire, and all your problems might be solved.

Sounds like a bad starter, but as gearloose said you need to check the wires. If you have an ohm meter you can ohm the wires to ground and see if there is a short.
