So I'm planning on doing a 4x4 conversation but I been looking at axles and transfer cases I've seen alot of different combinations. So what's the best axle to get? And what transfer cases will mount to an e4od. And what is better to do rebuild my transmission with the different output shaft or get one rebuilt already done? The reason I ask is cause my transmission already has a shift kit in it.
You will need the output shaft and tailhousing from a E4OD. The BW trans case from that era is plenty strong (I have had no issues with mine w/ a 460) If you really want beefy though, you can go back to a New Process style from the 70's but you will need to build a support for it. As for axles, the 10.25 in the rear and a Dana 60 in the front will handle just about anything you might throw at it.
Cool thanks fellas so far I been looking at Dana 44s and Dana 60s but I've seen things like pass drop axles what's that about? And I haven't seen anything about BW t cases could you explain them a little more?

Passenger drop refers to where the differential on the front axle is located. Fords use Drivers Side Drop axles where the pumpkin (differential) is offset to the drivers side.
I have a Borg-Warner 1356 xfer case in my truck with a E4OD/460 combo. Plenty tough. It's a chain driven, dual range part-time case that shifts manually, at least on mine. Hi range is 1:1 and Lo range is 2.69:1

Reason: Add xfer case info
