whatsup guys, i have a 2000 f-250 powerstroke everytime i hit a bump with the hubs unlocked i get a really bad vibration comming from the front end, seems like its on the passenger side but cant really tell, the weird thing is is that when i lock the hubs in or have it in 4wd it goes away, i swapped out the stock hubs and put a set of warn ones on and still does the same thing this is not a shimmy or a shake it is a vibration. i heard of an inner seal going bad in the hub that keeps the axle stub shaft sturdy but thats about it, anyone with an answer would be great thanks.
It could be your front wheel bearings too, the bearings are in a big hub assembly which the axle runs through, Mine went around 130K...maybe when u are locking the hubs it's keeping the axles fron vibrating in a bad bearing assembly?
i guess it could be but if it was the wheel bearing you would think it would do it all the time, and there is no play in the wheel bearing even though i kno that doesnt always matter but everything in the front end is tight but when i replaced the hubs on the passenger side i did notice that i can move the axle up and down and side to side pretty freely about a 16th of an inch but i didnt think it was anything excessive, because front axleshafts in most trucks you can move a little bit
I am having the exact problem you are. I changed the carrier bearing, took off the front drive shaft, and rotated the tires and can't figure it out. Did you ever figure it out?
they look good but I plan on replacing soon, do you they spin when your not in 4wd, and the hubs are unlocked? and why do the bumps make the vibration start?
gonna agree with the wherl berring i had this exact same problem on my jeep replaced the hubs and it was A ok from there easy way to see if the wheel berring is starting to go out is jack that tire up and spin it lisen for any od noise that how i put out mines is starting to go out
Or a bad tire. My friend had an old f-350 that would start shaking when you hit a bump and the once you slowed down it would stop for a while. Turned out to be a broken belt on on of the front tires.
