Bought a brand new 2011 Ford F250 Supercrew 6.7 Diesel Lariat Grey Metallic on a Friday.. The very next day I had to attend a wedding. Upon getting ready to leave i rounded up everyone riding with me and told them i would pull the truck around to pick them up at the door. So i do exactly that. Sitting waiting on the people to come out the door. I then see a friend of mine that i had not seen in a while and decided to step out of my truck and talk to him just a few steps away from my truck. Well a guy (extremely drunk guy) decided it would be funny to jump in my truck and take off through the parking lot like a bat out of hell.. Little did he know the gate was closed at the end of the parking lot and drove my brand new truck through a 10ft tall fence gate with two 4" crossmembers. doing 18,940$ worth of damage. Needless to say i have a broke hand, along with a broken heart but his insurance will be paying for all repairs and diminished value of my truck.. All cosmetic damage and no frame or engine damage.. The fence on the other hand was a total loss.. didnt stand a chance.. How's that for a story. Pictures to follow
I'd have probably been inclined to break my hand in a couple of places. That sux. Sorry about the hand too. I've done exactly that before. Boxer's break. Never got set properly. Now I can reach an extra key on the piano with my right hand.
On a practical note, if you don't have a bumper-to-bumper warranty, try to get his insurance company to buy one. I had a 2 week old Caravan years back and it was hit by a reckless driver. They fixed it (after 4 weeks) but in the subsequent years the AC had to be replaced twice, the front end went out and had to be replaced, and lots of other glitches. The warranty paid for them all.
I think you'll play hell getting his insurance to cover the damages. Since he didn't have your permission to drive the truck, it was essentially theft/vandalism, which would come back on your comprehensive coverage. You may end up suing him to recover your losses.
I would be getting a new truck. This one will NEVER be the same. Plus don't think for one second your insurance co or his has your best interest in mind.
