Question on 5.4 interchangability

Hi guy's, I'm new to the mod motor's so I have some questions. The truck we have is a 99 E150 5.4 "L" - Friday it developed a VERY serious rod knock. I do know that this is a 2V. In looking for replacement motors we're finding quite a few of the newer 3V motors with less miles & cheaper too! Other than the obvious head/cam/intake changes are there any other differences? Is it easily swapped? What other parts (computer/harness) would be needed for the swap? I just want to get as much info as I can before we buy something we don't need or can't use.

Thanks,
Dave

Complete harness, pcm etc would be needed, the exhaust won't batch up, the throttlebody is in a different location and drive-by-wire and you will need the matching transmission because they are differnt as well. Quite a PITA really.

OK, Thanx. We've been shopping on line for used motors... she thought she found a decent place in Milwaukee... until she checked BBB. 19 complaints in just the last year!

Good thing she checked!! I don't know if the van in 99 got the PI heads or not. If so, 99-03 will work. Look at the head like in the picture of my 01 I has to see if it has PI on the head.
