Building a motor to replace my 5.4 in my 2002 F250. I have a complete excursion/expedition motor (5.4) on a stand and may use the block and crank. Just wondering what the difference in performance is between the PI vs. non PI heads.
I'm building it for ultimate off road reliability and I like the cast intake set up v.s the plastic crap.
What other issues can you guys see down the road if I do the straight swap after building this motor, accessories etc.
Its not only the loss of power (30-35hp) you will notice but also your going to have to program your pcm to work correctly with NPI heads. Why would you want the aluminum intake? The plastic ones last forever and flow better.

I have no clue, still learning about these mod motors. Thanks for the incite, I will probably just pull the pi heads off my existing motor and send them out for work and install them on my shortblock once it's complete. Thanks for the info.

Why do so many people have problems with the plastic intakes cracking?
The plastic intakes are cheaper to make and probably flow better, but I've never had an aluminum intake crack.
Does anyone know if the aftermarket Dorman 615-188 intake work ok?
