With the engine running, spray carb clean where you suspect you may have a leak. When the engine revs up you found it. Spray around the upper and lower intake gaskets to check for leaks there.
A hand vac pump is handy for all the vac lines and the various vacuum modulated devices, can be had fairly cheap too.
Myself I use a garden hose to check for intake gasket vac leaks, work with fairly slow flow of water working from back to front low to high with someone watching tail pipe for steam.
Steam from tail pipe = vac leak. Its easy to narrow down the exact point of the leak provided you control the flow of water rather then flood over the engine with it all in one shot. No need to go to that extreme anyway, if its sucking air you will see steam as a result with small amounts of water flowing over a given spot/area.
