I Installed my Ipod in my Golvebox Usb2. I never take it out. So far so good. Sync searches artists songs...everything is great.
But here is my delima. I have an iphone4 with about 900 songs on it. I know I can bluetooth connect it but it doesn't have the sync command features ...like "Play artist George Strait" while in bluetooth. If I directly plug it to the dash usb, OR the plug under the the USB I still don't get the sync voice features. Does the USB2 being plugged in, override those features. Very frustrating.
Is there a way around this without unplugging the glovebox ipod?
My setup is usb 1 in glove box and usb 2 on dash. I don't own any apple devices but do have a flash drive plugged into usb 1 in the glove box. When my friend plugged in their iphone to usb 2 in the dash I think I remember it saying something about not being able to index songs. Next time I have an iphone owner in my truck I'll get some better data for you.
Ok, I have some new information that may or may not help. Today I plugged in a flash drive to usb2 while there was already a flash drive hooked up to usb1. Using the radio controls I went to sync and tried to change the source to usb2. Negative. My only choice was usb1. I unplugged the flash drive from usb1 and I was then able to select usb2.
So, looks like Sam was right on the money with his theory that sync can handle only one device at a time.
Update: You can have two devices plugged in at the same time but the only way to go back and forth between the devices is via the voice prompt. I just ran out to the truck and validated this.

I tried this today - have a 16 gig thumb drive on USB2 and plugged my 30 gig Ipod into the dash USB1 and also had my bluetooth Iphone in the truck. I was able to select all 3 devices from the source button on the screen. I did not try the voice commands.
Well, here's another question for you. Can you download songs from your iphone or ipod into the jukebox? Or can you only import from CD's? I only had a little time to play around with it last night, and could not see where I could move my music from my iphone to the jukebox.
