new problem

i drove my truck about 70 miles on interstate, got off and it would barely idle.when crusing it had a skip intermitently .got home runs decent until engine temp gets to about 180 then sounds if would die then comes back up when idiling. just hooked it up to Snap On Verus scanner and activation pressure is above 400 at idle then when it starts to die it jumps up to 600-800 psi.it has no lights and only history code is exhaust back pressure over limit. oil has 2000 miles on it .IPR problem ? or fuel? new filter ,new cps recall fix and new icp was leaking a little
thanks for help
Jackie

Just to verify, engine oil is full, not past due for a change and is the proper weight and rating?

What you're describing sounds like it could be an IPR issue. Cleaning them isn't always 100% successful. Does unplugging the ICP sensor just as the truck starts to act up have any affect?

Unplugging the ICP will turn on the CEL and throw a P1280 code. That parts normal, but it shouldn't be running rough with the ICP unplugged.

Almost anything is possible with the CPS, and it's a cheaper part to check first, but it sounds IPR related to me. Know anyone close by that might have a spare you could borrow?

Possible short in wiring going to under valve cover harness? Have you done .50 cent mod yet?

There is a known problem w/ the under valve cover wiring harness on either side of the vc. Feeds power to injectors & glow plugs. Some folks on here have had the wires rub through on the outside where the wires touch the top of the vc. Just check them with a flashlight & mirror.Look for bear or rubbed thru wires. Do a search for the (.50 cent mod.) Basically a retainer clip in side the vc's made from grinding down a quarter to keep the wiring harness tight and together. Chris(F-350-6) is a lot sharper than me on these motors , but this is something worth checking out - Let us know what you find. Good Luck

Sounds to me like a cps. I just got done figuring this put on my truck. Or if u unplug the ICP it should run better and in that case that's the problem. I'd try that first. I unfortunately didnt do the ICP and cps first and spend lots of mOney just to come back and spend about 100 bucks And fixed my truck. Best of luck!

You can unplug the harnesses from the VC gasket and check resistance of the injectors and GP's. The GP's are the outside 4 pins, the center pin is 'common' for the injectors and the other 4 pins are the injectors. Pin locations are indicative of which injector/GP they go to.

GP-GP-INJ-INJ-common-INJ-INJ-GP-GP

If you see any discrepancy from cold to hot or any other anomalies, the VC gasket/UVCH would be in question. A poor connection here will do some really weird things (don't I know... ) - although codes would be common.

Can you do Rotational Velocity with your scan tool? Any difference when its acting up vs running right?

Does it ever run 'right'?

thanks for info am going to change CPS first.and guess i will go ahead and check and do .50 mod . if this all fails looks like a gallon of gas and match will cure problem,LOL then will get a new IPR .looks as if this is logical route to go. idrove it to work this morning and just had a rough idle . on the way home it ran fine till got almost home and it started the rpm up down thing again still no codes.as far as rotational velocity have no idea . just know some basic stuff from the mraps ,they had cats and are same principle.Again thanks for all the input and will update my findings

Try to unplug the ICP first also. Sounds identical to what was wrong with mine.
