LOOKING TO REMOVE THE STEERING COLUMN FOR A 1947 FORD PICKUP, WILL WE HAVE TO TAKE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING BOX OR CAN WE JUST REMOVE THE COLUMN? ANY INSTRUCTION?
The whole box has to come out also. There isn't enough room in the cab to pull just the steering column. I tried and failed... These are old, one piece types with no removable connection from column to box.
There are 3 bolts on the box, one nut on the steering wheel. 2 bolts hold the tube to the dash, behind the gauges. Should be cotter keys on the ones for the box. The drag link comes off with normal tie rod end removal tools.
Good luck!
Thanks for the response, we ended pulling the steering wheel and lifted the cab up and over the the column. Lucky enought to have some good strong friends
