When I start this bad boy up it has a knocking sound and its even louder when its cold but when it warms up the knocking gradually is gone also its not as loud on a hot day when start up Idle so can anyone help me figure it out thanks
My '02 V10 used to sound like that and since my old 5.4 my 06 F-150 did the same thing I always chalked it up to the modular engines. However, I just did some maintenance and changed the spark plugs and the pcv valve and it is much quieter now. I really hadn't thought about it until I read your post, but it dawned on me that it is a lot quieter on startup now. I don't know which one seemed to help the plugs or the PCV, but it sure is quieter now.
I have a 6.8L V10 and it has this sound when it starts up like ....change going around and around but when it gets a little warm up then it quiets up.
Thanks nosedive I'll look into those options
Are you using a Motorcraft oil filter? If the oil filted does not have the anti-drain back valve, it will take longer for the oil pressure to get to the top of the engine because the pump needs to fill the filter first before the oil moves up. This can cause a bit more clattering until the oil gets where it needs to be, at teh pressure it needs to be. The Mortorcraft has the anti-drain back valve.
