TICK FINALLY GONE!

I have had a ticking for the last 25k miles, truck now has 160k. I had a gas smell in the a/c for the last 2 months that I could not track down either. After much research online it looked like it might be a spark plug that was loose. Had my local mechanic check all of the plugs and make sure that they were at 25 ft lbs torque. One plug needed 2 full turns to seat. All other plugs were tight. No more gas smell. No more Tick! I run the Champion plugs and they turn in and out like the spark plugs of my youth without soaking or magic. ---- Finally fixed!

I had really given up after replacing phasers, cam followers, lash adjusters, chain guides, chain tensioners, cam solenoids, and running every kind of oil from 5-20 to 15-40 diesel oil and I was pricing rebuilds for the eventual engine death. It was the gas smell in the a/c and online research that led me to check plug torque. It ran fine, power was fine, MPG was ok, no codes, and I drove 3000 miles to Florida and back with the tick. One of my Champion plugs had either backed out or was never tight from the dealer install about 9 months ago. Once the loose plug was set to 25 ft lbs., it was like a new truck. MPG up 4mpg, slight vibration was gone, gas smell gone, and the engine was now silent with only the injector noise. With 160k on my 06 FX4 even with many hours of snowplowing for the last 6 years, I am going for 300k to 400k on this one. I also quit using 5-20 oil and only use 5-30 Mobil 1 now and always a Ford filter.
