i seem to be having a problem finding out how to remove my 68 wiper switch. i'm doing a total restore and have everything but the wiper switch and the far left light to remove before i can pull the cab. i saw where someone said after removing the **** to unscrew the ring that says wiper but the previous owner repainted the dask and looks like paint is holding it on. i don't want to damage the ring so anyone know of a way to remove this? also the little light seems to be spring loaded and can't really see how this comes out.
Sounds like you got the wiper **** off.? Should be a threaded round nut inside the bezel that says wiper,it's aprox 1/2 inch in diameter w/ 2 small slots. This threaded nut pulls the switch thru the hole and tightens it against the dash. If PO painted over it,I'd say use a thin pocket knife blade and dental pick or paper clip, and dig all the paint off it and the threads till you can see the slots/threads. Then use a 1/4in or smaller screwdriver blade to gently rotate the nut CCW to unthread it. If its stubborn may have to tap it w/ a hammer to rotate it CCW. The round 1in diameter bezel says wiper just sits there. No addnl screw or rivet. The brake pressure light is kinda like a light bulb. W/ the speedometer out, press left thumb against the lite on front of dash, reach inside dash w/ right hand and gently push it towards your left hand and rotate it slightly. When you gently release pressure the backside socket and spring should come apart. You'll understand then what I said. The red light lense sorta like a light bulb. It has slots on it that slip into the socket, the spring holds it all together. Also, never drive the truck w/ the lightbulb missing from the socket, because when the pigtail makes contact w/ the dash it completes the circuit and makes a real mess fast. Don/t ask me how I know!!
ok, i see what you are saying and feel like i can get them off now. makes sense and been stuck on these two items. i want to do a good job with the restore and didn't want to paint around them like the po did.
hey duphoff! figure someone would have a tool for this!! great find.
