FTE RULES!
So now that ive fixed the little **** with my 'new' truck.. diff...oil pan...tran seals.
Its time to debate what to do next.
I wanna do this the right/safe way since this is my daily driver...and has to get me through college without completely dying.
The "right" or "safe" way could be opinionated..but I wanna hear what yall think.
Ive got 3"-4" exhaust. 4" skyjacker suspension lift... and a 60HP Edge chip. Pretty basic... Some new 35 BFGoodrich on order...last set I blew one out.
I wanna get a custom tuner...take out that crappy chip. and would love to get up in stage 1s, but I wanna take it slow n safe...
Gauges first? Intercooler?
Ha Very nice! Yeah I have a K&N but not like a cold air intake or anything fancy. DP? Down Pipe?
When it comes to exhaust I have 3" from turbo down to a 4" back with 45 degree out rear wheel.. No kitty.
Gauges is what I was planning soon... cuz they are pretty cheap and easy to do ^_^
Pyro..Trans..and Boost? Those are pretty typical I believe.
You will likely want to ditch that K&N in favor of a better filter unit. A lot of guys (myself included) are running the Donaldson 6637 filters and if your K&N kit has a 4" pipe you can just swap the filter and keep the rest of the kit. IMO the cold air kits don't really merit their price on our trucks. That air's going to get hot as soon as it hits the turbo anyway. But you do want to ditch the K&N they let too much dirt through until they are dirty, then they are too restrictive. Fine for gas engines, but no good for our diesels, they just flow too much air for the K&N.
Typically the mods go: Intake and exhaust, gauges, chip then injectors, HPOP,etc.
So if it were me, I'd go with a new filter unit (or Clay can sell you the Filter or the whole kit HERE) then the gauges (EGT, Boost, and Trans Temp if you have an auto), then you can go with a good chip with some custom burned tunes (DP Tuner and Tony Wildman are a couple of good ones).
The next things after that depend on how much power you want to make and how much $$ you have to spend. Jim at Rosewood Diesel does a great job with our injectors if you wanted to go with a set of stage ones. You can probably go with stage ones without upgrading the HPOP, but if you go much beyond that, you're going to need more HP oil!

Thanks yall! Yeah, the K&N just came that way... and so did the chip, but I did the exhaust. (the guy I bought it from didn't know how to mod...even less than I know) I mean COMON a chip with a stock exhaust? You cant really pump anything more without lettin it breathe! Heres to yall!
It's a pretty common thing. K&N has spend boo-coo dollars on advertising and their name is somewhat synonymous with performance air filters, they just aren't that great for diesels.
