I am a newbie to this forum and am asking for some help with my 83 F150 XLT
I need to replace the headliner and don't know how to remove the interior trim pieces to get to the headliner. Do I need special tools or can I just use a screwdriver and big hammer??? The backing material seems to be in good condition but I just can't get it out and it appears that I need to remove the trim pieces to do that. Please advise.
Most of your trim pieces are screwed in. There are 3 pieces that are metal, (one over the windhsield, and the two over the doors) they have squeeze brackets behind them. Just pry them off. I think its the same for your '83 as it is for my '86.
the metal trim above the door and windshield and back glass are held in by metal spring clips, they will pull of with some effort. I start at at one end working my way to the taking care not to bend them, in other words, once the first clip frees, move down the peice, don't try to pull the entire piece from the one end. once the metal pieces are removed, you'll be able to access the screws holding the pillar trim in place. you'll also have to remove the dome light housing, just make sure you put all the screws back in, as they make up the circuit.
Thanks guys for your advice. Would it be better to pry at the top or the bottom of the piece. I am assuming that you just slip a screwdriver under the piece and pry it off ??
