Hard 1-2 shift

I have an issue with shifting from 1st to 2nd. Under light throttle, say under 1800-2000 RPM, it bangs into 2nd gear pretty harshly. If I use moderate or greater throttle, it shifts normally. I did have the trans flushed at the dealer, but that seemed to have no effect. It's been that way since I got it and I have disconnected the battery cable to allow the computer to reset.

Ideas?

Mine does the EXACT same thing. Some people say its from a line pressure valve sticking, but I am not 100% my symptoms match

I just drive harder!

My first idea would be to find out what transmission you have. With the year and engine I can figure that out.

Ooops, yeah I should have mentioned that. 2000 V10 2WD is correct. 116K on it.

I do the same thing EMC, try to remember to keep my foot in it some until 2nd gear. It doesn't fit in with my usual grandpa like driving.

BTW, when cold it will not shift as harshly.

my f-350 does the same dam thing. its a 2004 with 5.4 and 4r100 trans. cold its normal but when it gets warm or hot it shifts real hard??? but I DO have a FTVB installed and i talked to them twice so far and they said its normal because of the stiffer springs? My feeling is if im not in it hard it should be almost normal but they said no so go figure?

Both of those are probably a 1-2 accumulator valve sticking.

They are right. They know their hardware and how it works. I agree with them.

Is there a way I can fix this myself? Or is it getting into transmission shop territory?

Also, will it damage the transmission to not do anything at all?

It's not that hard. You have to remove the pan and the accumulator body is right there. Then you remove the accumulator body. I don't have a diagram to show you which valve, but there are not that many. Make sure all are free and no springs are broken.

Would I replace it with the part listed in the link above? Or is there a better source for OEM parts?

Mark,
I recently had my trans rebuilt. They installed a transgo tugger kit and said that the shift kit was drilled out for the med settings. The X drives and shifts great but when I hook up to the camper it seems to slip just slightly when going into OD and at no other time. You can barely tell it but it just seems to over rev for a mili second before OD catches. They want to enlarge the holes in the shift kit. They said this will increase the pressure. Does this seem like the right thing to do or does it seem like a converter problem? They did all the updates when they rebuilt it too.

The Sonnex parts are good. I use them.

I can't tell. You need to data log with a very high end scan tool. You need to see engine speed, turbine speed, and output shaft speed during the event to see what's slipping. Then we know what to do to fix it.

Mark,

I don't want to thread jack but I have been having a problem with my 1995 F250, PSD, 2WD. After about 30-45 minutes of driving (especially if I use cruise control) my OD light will flash on/off and it seems like the tranny almost goes into a limp mode. It will shift very harsh from 1-2 and then again from 2-3. Once in 3rd, it is fine. TIA.

That's a thread hijack if I've ever seen one!

Your problem is completely different because it doesn't shift harsh all the time. Yours is shifting harsh once the OD light flashes because the transmission is in limp home mode due to an error code being stored in the PCM. You need someone with the right scan tool to read the code so we know where to start.
