Engine year Identification

Hey im trying to get the casting number off my 302 and looks like i can clearly see 3F2P on the casting on the other side of the starter. is this the correct number im looking for or do i have to drop the starter to get it. thanks

drop starter c= 60s d=70s etc

There is an engineering number as well as a date code.

3F2 could be: June (F) 2, 1973 (3), 1983 (3), or 1993 (3)...it all depends on what the casting number of the block is.

The casting number with a 1973 year date will begin w/a D (E for 1980's, F for 1990's).

Similar to this example: D3TE-6015-AA // P is the code for the engine assembly plant.

302 introduced spring 1968 in Passenger Cars. First installed in F100's, Bronco's and Econolines in 1969.

ok so im going to drop the starter today and if i understand correctly there will be another number there?
