Ignition problem or something else

Hey there, I've got a 1979 ford f150 with a 400. I recently went on a long trail ride through the hills and my positive battery cable welded itself to my header and direct shorted. My battery is now shot, the positive cable end saudered itself together etc. Since then i have fixed all the wiring/problems and wanted to fire it up to see if that was all that gone wrong. I used the 2 year old battery from my explorer and it fired right up. I have an MSD blaster 2 ignition. Only problem............My truck is much quiter now......I have no idea why. Any ideas? :/

It literally doesnt even sound like a v8 anymore. :/ I have posted this in electrical and havent gotten much of anything in the way of responses. Hope someone on here can help. Thanks

I melted a battery cable to headers one time; it was not fun. We're both lucky that the battery didn't explode.

Anyway, what do you mean it's much quieter now? Are you saying it's not running on all 8 cylinders, like it's missing? I don't totally understand the problem. As a side note, however, melting the battery cable to the header wouldn't have hurt the ignition system. When the battery directly shorts itself like this, the battery voltage drops significantly, and the engine should shut off. It's an under-voltage issue, which shouldn't hurt anything electronic - as opposed to an over-voltage issue (like what can happen if you disconnect the battery with the engine running).

Yea, it just shut off, engine compartment started to smoke from the battery i think cause it was cause the battery was on fire and then it backfired like crazy.
