A while back I was on here asking about a 6.0 that a customer had bought non-running, well a FICM power supply fixed that problem and he has driven it about 3K miles. Yesterday it developed a miss and pretty much lost what little power it had, I mean this thing won't move out of it's own way I don't have a scanner, but it is not throwing a check engine light, so don't know if one would help anyway. I checked the exhaust manifolds on start-up and the left front remains cold, telling me this is the cylinder not firing.
I don't want to start throwing parts at it without the advice of someone who knows a little more about these engines than I do. Thoughts? Advice? Prayers? Some not so kind words
I am not a Powerstroke fan and neither is my customer, we just want this one to run so that it can be traded off.
The only way to fully determine which cylinder is missing without a scanner or diagnostic tool is to start unhooking the injectors one at a time, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's an injector. You REALLY need some kind of scan tool to at least pull codes. Just because it doesn't have a CEL doesn't mean anything on an 04. Do you know if it's an 03 or 04 motor (ICP on passenger valve cover = 04).

ICP is on the pass valve cover. The build date on the truck is 12/03, but the date on the valve cover is 2005 It was bought from the original owner and he says the engine has never been replaced. These injectors have less than 20K on them, but the truck was inoperative for almost 2 years before I got it running. I pulled the injector from the cylinder that wasn't firing, we'll see tomorrow when the dealer gets one in

That in itself is a quandry that I have absolutely no answer for. Perhaps it was mixed up with another valve cover when the injectors were replaced before?
With the truck having sat for so long and only 3K miles on it since there's no telling what kind of cooties you're going to run into. How many miles on the truck? Last oil and fuel filter change and brand of filters? Check the FICM connections for bent pins or perhaps one came loose. It does happen. You could also have a leaking injector.

Oil and filters were changed when I installed the FICM, fuel filters are Ford items. The truck now has 160K on it. All pins in the FICM connectors are good, all wiring was checked before pulling the injector. I guess I'll see tomorrow what happens when I install the new one Thanks for the responce, I'll update tomorrow.
Sorry, got sidetracked and didn't have time to put the truck back together until today. Injector replacement had no effect on the miss. Had a local fellow with a scanner hook up to it and read codes, don't know specific code #s, but most were related to #2 injector, the one that I replaced Decided to start checking wiring and discovered one of the pins on the FICM slightly discolored, cleaned it and harness plug with contact cleaner and put on some fresh dieletric grease. Hey, wadda ya know? No Miss! We think the truck is sold, hopefully it is headed down the road tomorrow with a new owner at the wheel
Thanks for the help from this forum, won't bother you again as I'll never open the hood on another 6.0h-no powered Ford
its funny how people come on this 6.0 forum and ask for help and everyones opinions but talk so much s*** about the 6.0 motor seems kinda dumb
which probably turns off some of the more helpful people like cheezit or mechan
its funny how nccpartsman said to check ficm plugs and pins but you decided to throw an injector into it...then it turns out it was the ficm connection
being that your in mt holly Ill give you 500 for it and have someone come get it.
Sorry, it's already gone

weird
I guess I asked for this, but hey, I'm not a fan of any of the Powerstroke engines. I have owned several IDIs and seldom ever have to open the hood on them except for maintenance. I know many folks who run the newer diesels, Ford, Dodge, GM, and it seems that the hoods fly up when they pull up to a shop I'll just stick to what I know and have good luck with. As I said before, thanks for the help.
